Hamilton’s vs Wesbank – Match Report

The playing and management team left Cape Town early on Wednesday morning to make our way through to the Community Cup Play Offs for 2015. Having toppped our group with a final game thriller against Evergreens 2 weeks ago, the focus was on Wesbank in the Quarter Final. Having played Wesbank last year in the group stages and in pre season this year we had a better idea of what we were in for but knew they would be a different side after some great results in their own group. It was an early kick off as both sides made their way onto the field for the 10am kick off and we got into our stride quickly with a 4th minute try from our captain, Jody Burch. this was a result from a dominant scrum which staye din our favour the entire game. Before we knew it Ronnie Appolis scored a few miutes later from a great counter attack after a kick and a brilliant offload. After a few kicks were traded our Malmesbury neighbours took the lead 5 minutes from half time through Chrislyn van Schalkwyk after Wesbank made a break through the midfield. Half Time Hammies 10-15 Wesbank The opening 10 minutes of the second half were what we needed as 2 tries a conversion and a penalty swung the game and momentum in our favour with a 10 point lead. A great finish by Earl Lewis on 44 minutes with a goose step to create a bit of space and a power run down the right wing by substitute Frana Esterhuyzen on 47 minutes was the impetus we needed. Wesbank struck back in the 55th minute with quick turnover ball as Anvon Davids brought Wesbank back within 2 points following a Liedeman penalty. The rest of the game was settled off the kicking tee as both defences were tested. Final score Hammies 34-26 Wesbank Match Day Images Match Day Highlights We now face Rustenberg Impala on Saturday at 4pm in the Community Cup Semi Finals.
