What happened in Hammies-“Seccies” SLA -2 league game against Sir Lowrians 2nd team was very different to the norm!
The WP appointed officiating Referee abandoned / stopped the game seven minutes into the second half with Hammies leading 38 – 0 because of player conduct. There was poor discipline, disruptive abusive remarks among other things. At this stage, Sir Lowrians 2nd team had already received a red card and their yellow carded player was returning.
Initially there were a number of delays to the game through player card issues and correct prop replacements. When the match did get started, Hammies-“Seccies” started very slow out the blocks by scoring the first points of the game in 17th minute of a shortened (30 minute) first half. Morgan Newman opened the scoring and thereafter Hammies turned on the style by scoring five tries in 13 + 7 minutes. Iewan Bartels stole the show as the speedster scored a very well taken hat trick of tries in a space of 20 minutes.
To quickly summarise the game, Hammies-“Seccies” scored 38 unanswered points in 37 minutes of play!
Hammies-“Seccies” now have 5 wins having scored 273 points (42 tries) and conceding only 33 points (5 tries) from their opening five league games and are at present the only undefeated team in the SLA -2 league.
UCT 2nd team are currently top of the log with on 28 points from 7 games – followed by Hammies – “Seccies” on 24 points from 5 games, Vic’s 2nd teams on 22 points from 6 games, Maties 2nd team on 21 points from 7 games and then False Bay on 19 points from 5 games. Let’s keep on going – HAMMIES!
