Seccies ruthless as UniMil lose 1st game

After a good win against NNK two weeks ago and another break between game we face the unbeaten Unimil.

They were a bit of an unknown side to us as they were one of the newly promoted sides to Super League A. They had also won their first two game which included a good win over the usually strong Durbell. Continue reading Seccies ruthless as UniMil lose 1st game

Seccies continue to build their season

After a good win against Brackenfell two weeks ago the Seccies were looking to build on that performance. We had spoken during the week that we needed to be more clinical in our execution of plays and ensure that the pressure that we built was turned into points.

This had been an issue for us over the two league games played so far. Continue reading Seccies continue to build their season

Seccies dominate Derby Day fixture

The long awaited Derby clash eventually took place on Saturday afternoon at Stephan Way after many frustrating years in limbo. Hamilton RFC 2 nd team won comfortably 57-0.

Paddy Holman brought back the years with a sterling performance at 8 th man for Hamiltons before limping off injured. He shared man of the match award with Storm Winter who showed great skills and pace, scoring a hat trick of tries.

This match was a game of 2 very different halves. The first half was riddled with handling errors from both sides which prevented the game from having any fluidity. Once the dust had settled and we managed to get through a few phases we started breaking the Village defence.
Village were no match for us at set pieces which we dominated throughout the game. Assiduous flankers Dean Basson and Louw Langevelt were a handful for the opposition at ruck time.

Hamiltons led 21-0 at half time.

With the wind at their back, a much more direct and focused Hammies side produced a better second half performance. They managed to retain possession, cut down on infringements and reduce unforced errors. This enabled them to play to their structures, resulting in 6 more tries being scored. Hamilton’s defence held strong, not allowing their try line to be breached when Village showed some resilience.

Talented Regardt Louw and Wynand MaClachlan again advanced their reputations of players to watch this year with solid all round outings. Our captain for the day Walter Smit had a good performance controlling the game in the mid field.

Lots more hard work and planning is needed when Hamiltons host Brackenfell on Saturday for their last friendly match before the league starts.

Try scorers: Storm Winter (3), Walter Smit, Jacques Oosthuisen, Johan de Kock, Range Kote, Wynand Maclachlan, Tristan Cramer

Conversions: Walter Smit 6

Derby Day 2017

The 140th Derby Day is tomorrow with a full house of fixtures and entertainment on the cards. With this fixture dating back to the 1800’s it deserves all the spotlight

We took the opportunity to rejuvenate a few other competitions that the sides shared. This year saw the return of Darts, Cricket and Golf which were all a great success as we know the main event will be. Continue reading Derby Day 2017

Seccies seal only win of the day

After a six week mid season break, it was back to the grind stone for the last 5 games of the season.

After reaching our mid season goal, we set our targets high but first we had to get passed our voodoo side for the last few years, the Vic’s students from Stellenbosch. Continue reading Seccies seal only win of the day

Hammies 2nd XV demolish False Bay

Saturday was to be the biggest test we have faced so far this season. False Bay are always a hard team to play at The Bay.

We had gone into this game unbeaten but False Bay had not conceded a try in their last 6 games. There had been quite a bit of banter between the teams through the week as False Bay had a few Hammies old boys and family of Hammies players which  just added to the excitement of the game.
