This evening sees the two oldest clubs compete in the oldest club derby game this Country has. It has been 3 long years since we were able to compete against Villagers in the league and in that time it was only Derby Day games for the bragging rights.
May 8th 2015 however is a different game. We compete for SLA points as both sides fight it out in the top Western Province Club competition
There is no doubting both clubs want a full house of wins but a 5 pointer for the first side would be the cherry on the top.
Both Hammies and Village have played 3 games so far as we sit in 3rd spot and our visitors in 6th. A win for us will put us top of the log with a 2 or 3 point lead and on the same amount of games as UCT & Maties.
Our seconds are unbeaten this year and will comfortably take top spot on the league as they face a Villager 2nd XV with only one win from their 3 games. We have a number of players coming back from injuries and other lay off’s and have named a very strong side.
Villagers sit 3 points adrift of our 3rd side who even with a bonus point win will sit in 2nd spot on the table behind Maties. Our third side have a lot of bonus points to get as catch up for the game that we drew against Vic’s in the opening fixture.
Our under 20’s are a sight to behold this season as they have scored a whopping 198 points in 3 games and are yet to concede any. Villager u20 have 1 win from their 3 games and will no doubt push our youngsters – Here is to another clean sheet gents
We welcome UWC as we prepare for our first home game of the SLA season. Even though it is rather early in the year all our teams will be looking for big wins tomorrow as the new league format makes it extremely difficult to make up points if you fail to get the desired result.
First Team Match Day Squad 16:00
We are sitting in 5th position on the log having played 2 games getting bonus point wins in both and the last game being a tough away 5 pointer against Primrose. UWC have also played 2 with a win and a loss and sit in 9th place on the log. A bonus point win for the first side will put them top of the log for the time being. Coach, Anton Moolman, has made a number of changes to his side as we look to strengthen the entire senior playing group for the tough season ahead. Continue reading Hammies vs UWC – Match Day Preview
