Player Profile: Mncedisi Joni

Mikey has been at Hammies for 5 years, joining us in 2012. Schooled at IQhayiya Senior Secondary School the hard working flanker has also played for Blue Jets as well as Stellenbosch U19

Greatest Rugby Memory:
“Playing Sevens in Malaysia for  Stellenbosch Under 19”

Rugby Journey:
“Ever since i started playing rugby at high school I always wanted to play at a  higher level, like Stormers and Springboks. I have been in few trials and played in Legends Cup tournament for Juniors at school.”

Mikey has had an incredible journey with Hammies in the past few seasons and has grown immensely as a player. He is a senior and vital part of the 3rd XV and slips seamlessly into the 2nds when needed.

Mike Joni is hard working flanker that enjoys the physical side of the game. A good defender at close quarters and strong ball carrier. Mike has a high work rate at ruck time and is always prepared to do the dirty work for which ever team he is selected. Mike is a regular stand out forward and continues to grow as a player at Hammies with consistent  performances each week. – Barry Herbert 3rd Team Manager

Solid away win puts Hammies back on Top!

The loss of Winger, Brandon Asher-Wood and Fullback; Marlo Weich who have both joined the SA Rugby 7’s Academy and the SWD Eagles respectively during this past week did not place any damper on the well-drilled Hamilton outfit.

Thirds made to sweat for late bonus point win at Belhar

Hammies 3rds made the trip to Belhar on Saturday on yet another perfect day for running Rugby.

What was immediately clear is that Belhar is a club on the rise and they defend their home ground with passion and pride. During our warm up  we finally got to watch some of the U20’s who were involved in real tussle.

Juniors match report against Kirstenhof Primary

Saturday saw round 2 of the WP Primary Schools league for 2017 and we took on Kirstenhof Primary.

The U9B got Hammies off to great start winning 35-15, with wing Aku Makaya the star player.

The U9A’s faced a tough challenge against a very well- organised Kirstenhof outfit and in the first half were made to sweat. Once again turn over ball cost the 9A’s who trailed 1-0 for most of the first half. Hammies improved at the breakdown as the match wore on, profiting from quick ball we scored 5 tries in reply. Dynamiter 4ths fall to Kuilsrivier

The Dynamiters were greeted with favorable home ground conditions upon arrival to the club and the boys were well spirited despite some drastic changes to the starting lineup after Vice Captain, Waldo Smit, coming down with flu leaving him no choice but to relinquish his starting position.  The tuna must have gone off the bite, because a well-received Mark Felgate, very quickly pulled his boat up the slip and headed down to the club to fill in on the bench. Ryan Povey rushing from the airport to fall in at his usual position at 6, saw Shaun back in at lock and Petri move to 8th man for the starting 15. Full Report

Weich continues his scintillating form…

After returning from a short international tour to Georgia with the WP Rugby Academy – Fullback, Marlo Weich continued his excellent form by scoring no fewer than four tries for Hamilton SP-RFC in their big 55 – 6 away at Primrose on Saturday. Amazingly Marlo Weich also scored all five of the WP Academy tries in there three match series against the Georgian u/20 team who are preparing to participate and host the Under 20 – Rugby World Cup. Leoneal Pietersen scores 23 points to give U20B’s solid win
