Away win that gave the home team something to shout about…

Match day two in the 2017 SLA was away outing against the much improved Brackenfell RFC. The game was played in sweltering hot weather conditions on a hard dry surface and this all because of the current drought that is crippling our beautiful Cape.

Head Coach, Niekkie Viljoen made two changes from the team that drew against False Bay. Greg van Jaarsveld (Hooker) returning from a calf injury after a short spell with the “Seccies”, got his first start of the season while Justin Moberly (Lock) made his debut after missing the season’s opener because of a bereavement in his family.  Jason Kriel (Centre) made his first start after playing off the bench against False Bay.  Continue reading Away win that gave the home team something to shout about…

Match Report: Dynamiter 4ths vs Pollsmoor 1 (24 -13)

The day had finally arrived! It was the Dynamiter 4ths’ first game of the season, playing against another new entrant to the Reserve League, the Pollsmoor 1sts.

Now we’ll admit that there were some well-founded concerns about this new team. We were anxious to find out if we were playing the prison staff or some of Matt Scarlett’s dodgy family that were allowed out on good behaviour. To our relief, the Pollsmoor side were made up of staff and friends from neighbouring farms, a real bunch a stand up gents.

3rd XV make it 2 from 2 to start the season

It was de ja vu as Hammies 3rds kicked off once again at Brackenfell. Once again it was dry, hot and dusty conditions that greeted the players for the 2nd time in 3 weeks. Late try saves False Bay blushes!

The 2017 SLA season got off to an exciting start at Stephan Way, the home of the oldest rugby club in South Africa, Hamilton SP – RFC that took place on April’s Fool day….

Hosting the 2016 SLA Champions was always going to be a tough and exciting affair. What happened on a warm Saturday afternoon was one of the most dramatic finishes to be witnessed. U20’s rack up 42 points against False Bay

3rd XV with an opening season win over the Bay

Hammies 3rds powered their way to a hard fought 20 -7 victory over False Bay at Hamilton on Saturday.

On a dry warm day, the conditions were really good for running rugby and Hammies 3rd’s delivered a  big win for the club over the 2016 league champions.

Uwe Geissler performs as the U20’s hold off Brackenfell

It was hot and field was a dust bowl which made it conditions look like an John Wayne movie-with both teams looking to impose their physicality on each other.

Hamilton 1st team take a humbling win away at False Bay

Preseason preparation for the upcoming WP SLA rugby season continued as Hamilton SP RFC 1st team squad travelled to the Bay on Saturday 11 March 2017 after an impressive 33-14 mid-week win against an Argentina 1st Division Club – Biblioteca Mariano Moreno.

Taking on the 2016 Champions was always going to be a tough one, though Hammies were the only club to take points off False Bay in last year’s pulsating draw at the Bay. With 10 senior players not available due to injury, Head Coach – Niekkie Viljoen and his staff selected a very solid 25 man squad for this friendly outing.
