With the last game remaining until the league goes on a break, the U20’s wanted to end off the first half the season with a victory against Durbanville – Bellville. The match was played under Friday night lights at very cold DurBell. We played a warm up game against them before the season commenced and we knew they were going to be very physical and play with lots of speed and precision. Cometh the hour cometh the man as Ryan Johnson sinks the Durbell ship with a brilliant solo try ten minutes from the end as Hammies -“Seccies” continued their seasons winning streak with a passionate 25 – 13 home win against Durbell RFC 2nd team. After conceding a sloppy first minute converted try against a very good Durbell outfit, the victory was all the better as we found ourselves on the back foot from the start and showed true guts and determination in a terrific win.
The intensity and drama unfolded early in the game when the appointed match Referee had to be rushed to ER with a suspected fractured ankle within the first ten minutes of the game. Hamilton SP RFC completed their preseason preparation for the 2015 WP Super “A” rugby season with a “Friday Lights” outing at Durbell RFC. Hammies – “Seccies”, 3rd and u/20 A & u/20-Reserve teams travelled to Durbanville on Friday and came back with three wins from four games. Our u/20–Reserve team won their opening WP u/20 Reserve League game against last year’s winners, Durbell – with a solid 13 – 3 win, while our u/20 A lost 9 – 3 to very competitive Durbell u/20 A. Once again our the 3rd XV came back after been down 10 – 0 with a comeback of note and a last minutes intercept try by Dugald Robertson to defeat their 3rd team 17 – 10.
