3rd team get the biggest win of the day against NNK

Hammies 3rds had a comfortable win against the usually highly physical and competitive NNK at Hammies on Saturday. This weekend that simply was not the case with Hammies running in no less than 11 tries.
Once again hot and dry conditions {seems to be a theme so far this season} greeted the players who were keen and ready as always for a home fixture.  Continue reading 3rd team get the biggest win of the day against NNK

Away win that gave the home team something to shout about…

Match day two in the 2017 SLA was away outing against the much improved Brackenfell RFC. The game was played in sweltering hot weather conditions on a hard dry surface and this all because of the current drought that is crippling our beautiful Cape.

Head Coach, Niekkie Viljoen made two changes from the team that drew against False Bay. Greg van Jaarsveld (Hooker) returning from a calf injury after a short spell with the “Seccies”, got his first start of the season while Justin Moberly (Lock) made his debut after missing the season’s opener because of a bereavement in his family.  Jason Kriel (Centre) made his first start after playing off the bench against False Bay.  Continue reading Away win that gave the home team something to shout about…

Hamilton power to victory in the 140th Derby

Match day three in the Hamilton SP-RFC preseason preparations continued with a powerful victory against Villager in the 140th Derby Day match and in doing so retained the “Friendship” trophy.

Villager RFC did their level best to retain possession from numerous pick and ruck movements throughout the game by starving possession from the much fancied Hamilton outfit. Unfortunately they were constantly outplayed and struggled to cross the advantage line. With this tactic, they often lost possession and were punished by the terrific running game Hamilton’s produced in match. Hamilton SP RFC 1st team ran out convincing winners by 73 – 14 in this home derby fixture. Continue reading Hamilton power to victory in the 140th Derby

Seccies dominate Derby Day fixture

The long awaited Derby clash eventually took place on Saturday afternoon at Stephan Way after many frustrating years in limbo. Hamilton RFC 2 nd team won comfortably 57-0.

Paddy Holman brought back the years with a sterling performance at 8 th man for Hamiltons before limping off injured. He shared man of the match award with Storm Winter who showed great skills and pace, scoring a hat trick of tries.

This match was a game of 2 very different halves. The first half was riddled with handling errors from both sides which prevented the game from having any fluidity. Once the dust had settled and we managed to get through a few phases we started breaking the Village defence.
Village were no match for us at set pieces which we dominated throughout the game. Assiduous flankers Dean Basson and Louw Langevelt were a handful for the opposition at ruck time.

Hamiltons led 21-0 at half time.

With the wind at their back, a much more direct and focused Hammies side produced a better second half performance. They managed to retain possession, cut down on infringements and reduce unforced errors. This enabled them to play to their structures, resulting in 6 more tries being scored. Hamilton’s defence held strong, not allowing their try line to be breached when Village showed some resilience.

Talented Regardt Louw and Wynand MaClachlan again advanced their reputations of players to watch this year with solid all round outings. Our captain for the day Walter Smit had a good performance controlling the game in the mid field.

Lots more hard work and planning is needed when Hamiltons host Brackenfell on Saturday for their last friendly match before the league starts.

Try scorers: Storm Winter (3), Walter Smit, Jacques Oosthuisen, Johan de Kock, Range Kote, Wynand Maclachlan, Tristan Cramer

Conversions: Walter Smit 6

The 140 th Derby Day kicked off with the 3rd teams locking horns in pleasant but windy conditions on Saturday. Hammies made the early running and quickly settled into a decent rhythm against a fired up Villager.

Seccies seal only win of the day

After a six week mid season break, it was back to the grind stone for the last 5 games of the season.

After reaching our mid season goal, we set our targets high but first we had to get passed our voodoo side for the last few years, the Vic’s students from Stellenbosch. Continue reading Seccies seal only win of the day

Weich with a double on debut

In this weekends fixture Hamilton’s found the going tougher than expected against a highly motivated Brackenfell at Stephan Oval.

Hamilton’s lead from the outset and in truth were never in doubt of the result however a plucky visiting team through some excellent goal kicking prevented us from running away with the victory.
