The first of our U20’s to be featured, Wonga Koti plays for the U20A side at 8th Man. Having been a loosie all his rugby career he is a talented athlete playing both hockey and basketball.
In fact not only did he play but represented Western Province in both Hockey (as a goalkeeper) and Basketball. In Grade 9 Wonga took the decision to focus on rugby and has since then had a season at UWC after school before joining Hammies.
Best Rugby Memories:
“Scoring my first try as a young boy. Another that sticks with me is going the through all the rounds at the Craven Week trials”
Wonga talks about his rugby journey and what motivates him –
“I played a rugby when I was really young but then I stopped because my primary school didn’t have any rugby and I had to join other sports , I played hockey which I represented WP until u14 , I decided in grade 9 I will go back rugby and have played ever since.
My passion for rugby runs deep my uncle, Msimelelo Koti, played for SARU, WPRB and Border- I hope have the opportunity to play further up the ranks and possibly professional one day.”

Greatest Rugby Memory:
“Playing Sevens in Malaysia for Stellenbosch Under 19”
“Ever since i started playing rugby at high school I always wanted to play at a higher level, like Stormers and Springboks. I have been in few trials and played in Legends Cup tournament for Juniors at school.”
Mikey has had an incredible journey with Hammies in the past few seasons and has grown immensely as a player. He is a senior and vital part of the 3rd XV and slips seamlessly into the 2nds when needed.
Mike Joni is hard working flanker that enjoys the physical side of the game. A good defender at close quarters and strong ball carrier. Mike has a high work rate at ruck time and is always prepared to do the dirty work for which ever team he is selected. Mike is a regular stand out forward and continues to grow as a player at Hammies with consistent performances each week. – Barry Herbert 3rd Team Manager

The Dynamiters were greeted with favorable home ground conditions upon arrival to the club and the boys were well spirited despite some drastic changes to the starting lineup after Vice Captain, Waldo Smit, coming down with flu leaving him no choice but to relinquish his starting position. The tuna must have gone off the bite, because a well-received Mark Felgate, very quickly pulled his boat up the slip and headed down to the club to fill in on the bench. Ryan Povey rushing from the airport to fall in at his usual position at 6, saw Shaun back in at lock and Petri move to 8th man for the starting 15. Full Report
