Mackenzie does it again the 3rds power past Tygerberg

Long serving Hammies centre Dan Mackenzie really does enjoy a home a fixture and on Saturday it showed as he produced yet again for the 3rds with no less than 4 tries in a single match.

This is not the first time we have seen Dan with a nose for the try line, but this past week against Tygerberg he was a bulldozer personified and at his very best. Well played man of the match Dan!

U20 A’s get back to winning ways

After coming off four consecutive losses, the U20A were keen to get back into winning ways.  During the two-week break, we didn’t stop working hard and it showed in their performance against Tygerberg.  We knew Tygerberg weren’t going to be an easy side as they are sitting third on the log and has put in some massive performances against tough opponents. Player Profile: Wonga Koti

The first of our U20’s to be featured, Wonga Koti plays for the U20A side at 8th Man. Having been a loosie all his rugby career he is a talented athlete playing both hockey and basketball.

In fact not only did he play but represented Western Province in both Hockey (as a goalkeeper) and Basketball. In Grade 9 Wonga took the decision to focus on rugby and has since then had a season at UWC after school before joining Hammies.

Best Rugby Memories:

“Scoring my first try as a young boy. Another that sticks with me is going the through all the rounds at the Craven Week trials”

Wonga talks about his rugby journey and what motivates him – 

“I played a rugby when I was really young but then I stopped because my primary school didn’t have any rugby and I had to join other sports , I played hockey which I represented WP until u14 , I decided in grade 9 I will go back rugby and have played ever since.

My passion for rugby runs deep my uncle, Msimelelo Koti, played for SARU, WPRB and Border- I hope have the opportunity to play further up the ranks and possibly professional one day.”

Seccies continue to build their season

After a good win against Brackenfell two weeks ago the Seccies were looking to build on that performance. We had spoken during the week that we needed to be more clinical in our execution of plays and ensure that the pressure that we built was turned into points.

3rd team get the biggest win of the day against NNK

Hammies 3rds had a comfortable win against the usually highly physical and competitive NNK at Hammies on Saturday. This weekend that simply was not the case with Hammies running in no less than 11 tries.

Match Report – U20B vs UCT U20B

It was a fantastic day for rugby and both teams were eager to get started. The game started about 15 minutes late after the referee had an unexpected delay.

The boys from UCT drew first blood with a well executed play scoring in the corner. The conversion was unsuccessful. Hamilton fly half Daniel Scheidegger got Hamilton on the score board with a penalty 45m out, taking the score to 5-3 in favor of UCT. Continue reading Match Report – U20B vs UCT U20B
